Your First Neuromodulator Treatment: What to Expect Before, During & After
Considering your first neuromodulator treatment (the injections commonly known as Botox®)? Knowing what to expect makes the whole experience easier. Here’s a physician-led walkthrough — before, during and after.
Before: the consultation
Every treatment at SKN MD starts with a medical assessment. We review your health history, discuss your goals, and map which areas — if any — will give you the natural result you’re after. It’s also the time to mention medications and to raise any questions. If you bruise easily, your clinician may suggest avoiding alcohol and certain supplements beforehand.
During: the appointment
The treatment itself is quick — often just a few minutes. Using a very fine needle, your clinician places small amounts of product into the targeted muscles. Most people describe it as a brief pinch. There’s no anesthesia needed and you can return to your day right away.
After: aftercare & timing
- Right after: stay upright for a few hours, and avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas.
- First 24 hours: skip strenuous exercise, saunas and facials.
- Results: begin to appear in about three to seven days and reach full effect around two weeks.
- Duration: typically three to four months, after which you can book a maintenance treatment.
Mild, temporary effects such as small bruises or a brief headache can occur and usually settle quickly. Your clinician will review what’s normal and how to reach us with questions.
A note on natural results
Good neuromodulator treatment isn’t about looking “done” — it’s about softening lines while keeping your natural expression. That’s the goal of our MD Codes, physician-led approach, and it’s why the assessment matters as much as the injection. Learn more about our neuromodulator treatments.
