Yes, there are contraindications for neuromodulator injections. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as people with skin infections or neurological diseases, are not suitable candidates for this treatment. Additionally, those with a history of allergy to botulinum toxin or its components should avoid this treatment. Before undergoing botulinum toxin injections, it is important to discuss your medical history and any pre-existing conditions with your doctor.
Unfortunately, botulinum toxin is not right for everyone. Some people may not be suitable candidates for botulinum toxin due to many factors, such as age, skin condition, or medical history. Other treatments may be better suited to your aesthetic concerns, and a thorough evaluation with our Medical Director can help determine the best treatment plan for you.
Side effects may occur after botulinum toxin injections. The majority of potential side effects include bruising, redness, swelling, headache or asymmetry. These side effects are generally mild and temporary, usually disappearing within a few days. During your consultation, our medical team will explain all potential side effects, including rare complications.
The number of botulinum toxin sessions needed varies from person to person depending on several factors, including the area being treated, wrinkle depth, and individual aesthetic goals. Typically, patients can see significant results after just one botulinum toxin treatment session. However, to maintain results, follow-up sessions are typically recommended every three to four months. Your doctor will assess your specific aesthetic needs and recommend a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Although the effects of botulinum toxin treatment may begin to show within two weeks of the initial injection, it may take longer for fine lines and wrinkles to fully fade, sometimes taking a few weeks or months. Results may vary from person to person depending on a variety of factors such as the depth of the wrinkles and individual response to treatment.
The botulinum toxin injection procedure is generally well tolerated and not very painful. The needles used are very fine, which minimizes any sensation of pain. Most patients do not require anesthesia but your comfort is our priority.
Recovery time after a botulinum toxin injection is generally very short. Most patients notice some temporary redness and swelling and can resume their normal daily activities immediately after treatment (except for physical activity for 24-48hrs). However, it is recommended to avoid massaging or rubbing the treated area for the first few hours after the injection, to minimize any risk of the product moving.
Botulinum toxin can be used to treat several areas of the body, including the forehead, frown lines (between the eyebrows), crow’s feet (corners of the eyes), lips, neck, underarms, hands and feet, masseter, chin, nasal folds (“bunny lines”), eyebrows, lower face, décolleté, neck as well as the trapezius muscles (“Barbie Tox”) and calves.
